Academic institutions on island have the opportunity to focus on research that is not only societally relevant, but can also positively contribute to the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals, and strengthen regional resilience. This type of research catalyses innovation, and can place universities as leaders in the discourse surrounding climate policy.
