This occasional newsletter highlights events and stories about innovation in sustainable development for rural, remote and island regions. We want to change the discourse to demonstrate how islandness can be a driver for innovation.
About Jersey International Centre of Advanced Studies
JICAS is a postgraduate research centre focusing on islands and island communities. Our flagship programme is an MSc Island Biodiversity and Conservation in partnership with BioSciences, University of Exeter. JICAS also runs programmes in Island history, archaeology, culture and aesthetics, climate change and sustainability.
Islands have long been considered as paradigmatic case studies both by natural and social scientists, and we believe that it is important to preserve their heritage from the threats of environmental change. Moreover, the study of islands can foster bridges between academia, practitioners, and communities living on islands, with mutual benefit deriving from these multiple perspectives also for mainland communities.
