About Dr. Mike Allen
With a background in engineering and more recent focus on the financing of renewables, Mike has been involved in the clean energy industry for over 40 years,with extensive international experience. He has been an independent consultant since 2002.
From 1995 to 2001, was based in the USA with E+Co, a Rockefeller Foundation supported facility focused on early-stage finance and business development support for clean energy projects in emerging economies.
Since 2013, in his role as special envoy / adviser, he has provided support to New Zealand MFAT’s activities in renewable energy through development assistance, with a particular focus on the activities of IRENA and their SIDS Lighthouse initiative. He chaired the advisory board of the US$350m IRENA/ADFD investment facility.
In 2018 he undertook a survey of private sector power opportunities within the Pacific islands for the Pacific Power Association.
For 7 years, Mike was a non-executive member of the board of Mercury NZ Ltd in New Zealand an SOE power utility with significant hydro and geothermal generation.
